A Thing Speaks for Itself

if i leave a confession sitting too long in my mouth
it becomes a liturgy
I guess you don’t know what it feels like to have
a volcano erupt in your mouth

you smell the burning remains of your prayers
and your tongue
begs your eyes
to leak saltwater

if i leave a poem sitting too long in my throat
i become a breathing erosion
making holes and gullies in myself
