My Mother’s Eyes

There’s a place where hope resides
Underscoring the fresh viridescence of Spring
As sprouts spearhead progress
As doves dangle the olive branch
As lichen flourishes in smogless sunlight

Where the once languishing, revel in nourishment
And green fingers cheerlead them on
Ardent through the arduous
Abundance in austerity

Two emerald orbs
The crown atop my first fertile home
That stare the vile away
That cut storm clouds with rainbow tears
And shoot prayers into the Heavens
