OLD THINGS MAKE THE BEST GIFTS

If you must gift me a book
make it an old torn copy
preferably with pages gone brown
and whole sections highlighted
and tiny quick scribbles of your thoughts
on the margins
and mindless doodles
on the back page
that I may follow your mind
into oblivion

I have no interest in things new
if you must gift me a book
let it be a copy you love
