Regret’s Sand-watch

Regret exhumes other corpses –
say, my father’s repeater
I gave a watchmaker to repair
and on the day of the delivery
went through a private putsch,
never went to collect the watch.
Next month I visited the tiny shop,
heard about the watchmaker’s
long, long cardiac arrest.

Regret, a sand-watch, I flip
and repeat the process,
seek an imaginary strand of my father’s hair
stuck in the chain bracelet.
