"Little Girl" photograph by Carl Scharwath

Little girl

poem by Marina M Malhotra

The little girl, she runs around.
Occasionally her hips sway to the beat.
She is so cute!
With her sassy smile she approached her mother, and asked:
Mother, can birds dance?
Can the stars dance too?
Her mother answered with a smile,
That everything in this universe can dance.
The dance sequence will create the sound.
It is designed to entertain.
As the rain falls with the dance.
The gurgling of the water feels chaotic.
To quench the thirst of the lonely earth
In waves dancing on the surface of the ocean
Hear the sound of the lonely hum of rocks and calling voices of seagulls.
Her mother paused her words.
Wisely, she said:
You were born from a dance and song that was sung at midnight.
To complement our gratitude
Of how precious you are
Little girl.
